No I personally don't think you are when playing a computer game.
I think calling yourself a driver diminishes what real life racing drivers do. Or at least exagerates what you do as a gamer. You can't be putting yourself on a par with what those guys and girls do. You are a gamer as you don't operate a vehicle, you control a game.
Whether you use a wheel or not makes no difference.
It's not the best example, but people who play COD don't say that they are a soldier. They are gamers.
When they play Time Crisis etc. down the arcade with a plastic gun rather than a controller that still makes no difference.
If/when racing vehicles in real life you are a racing driver. When on a racing game you are a gamer.
